Michael Jones is an internet executive, investor, and strategic advisor and the CEO of Science, Inc. He is one of Los Angeles’s most active angel investors, with more than $2.5B in exits. His exits in 2016 alone included Science portfolio companies HelloSociety (acquired by The New York Times), FameBit (acquired by Google), and Dollar Shave Club (acquired by Unilever).
As a lifelong entrepreneur, Michael started his first company in college, and he was previously the CEO of Userplane (acquired by AOL), Tsavo (acquired by Cybermedia), PBJ (acquired by JB), MySpace (acquired by Specific Media), Myspace Japan (acquired by Softbank), and FIM (acquired by Rubicon Project). He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
Peter Pham leads the effort to raise money for Science incubated companies which has totaled $400M. Previously as an operator, he has helped build companies like Photobucket as employee #5 leading growth & corp dev leading to its $300M acquisition to MySpace as well as cofounder/CEO of BillShrink which which was acquired by MasterCard. He is also an angel/advisor to companies like Nextdoor, Ring, & Medium.
Greg is a founder of Science Blockchain and co-founder and general counsel of Science Inc. He’s a Managing Director of the Science Ventures Fund. In addition to numerous other board positions, he sat on the boards of HelloSociety and PlayHaven until each was acquired. He is the Executive Chairman of RxVantage, and previously served as a Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology Law at Pepperdine University School of Law, where he designed and taught courses in intellectual property and licensing. He also held FINRA (previously NASD) Series 7 and Series 63 licenses.
Tom has more than 20 years of experience building and managing Internet companies through startup, growth and turnaround stages. Prior to Science, Tom served as the VP of Business Intelligence for Myspace, responsible for user engagement and monetization analytics for +100 million monthly users. Prior to MySpace, Tom was the COO of Tsavo Media, an online publishing network of over 400 owned and operated sites. Tom spent four years with Spark Networks, an online personals and social networking provider, in charge of strategic development.
Prior to Spark, Tom was part of the founding management team at Move, an online real estate listing service serving consumers and brokers. Tom’s career in online media started with The Los Angeles Times where he developed online classified businesses and partnerships within the newspaper industry.
Working with Tom, Robert manages the internal finance processes at Science while providing finance guidance to the portfolio Companies. He has over 10 years working in startup companies and worked in external audit at KPMG previous to the private sector. A graduate of Western Washington University, Robert is a CPA, and bike commutes to SaMo from Hermosa Beach year round.
Talia is an Asset Manager at Science. She has experience building and scaling startups throughout Southeast Asia—and has managed 10 businesses across education, marketplaces, social and e-commerce. Formerly at Fisher Investments.
Laz has spent time on both sides of the startup table. On the founder side, he helped build the Rise Awards, a community for tech talent. Then, on the investor side, he serviced a portfolio of over 100 early-stage companies at Lowercase Capital. Now as an Asset Manager at Science, he helps our companies with product, strategy, and fundraising. He’s also a musician and gamer.
Lance is the Director of Facilities and Operations at Science. He ensures our entrepreneurs and executives have the technology and resources they need to be successful. Prior to Science, Lance did transportation logistics for numerous red carpet events like The Oscars, Grammys, and Super Bowl 50. At Science, he specializes in optimizing office processes while managing short and long-term internal projects. Lance is the Swiss Army Knife of our office and the ultimate team player.
Johanna is the Corporate Paralegal at Science. She has more than 7 years of experience in corporate law and entity management. She has supported dozens of startups and growth companies with formation, corporate governance, IP matters, financing events, and transactions. Prior to Science, Johanna supported entity management, transactions, and SEC reporting at AECOM, a global engineering and infrastructure company.
James is the Principal, Science Incubation. He has 12 plus years of experience working with startups and growth sector businesses — serving as a co-founder and managing over 10 businesses across e-commerce, marketplaces, and mobile in the last four years that have raised over $60m from top-tier VCs.
James is a former investment banker who managed over 30 IPOs for technology, consumer, and healthcare companies.
Marlene's experience in digital marketing and advertising spans 20-ish years across a spectrum of business sizes and brand categories, from finance to packaged goods to entertainment. Her perspectives on branding, customer engagement and acquisition stem from her extensive work with advertising & social media agencies, online publishers and global corporations.
Matt has been managing paid search and social ad campaigns for 8+ years. He has experience working in both e-commerce and mobile apps. In his time at Science-inc., he has assisted in digital marketing strategies for portfolio companies as well as external clients.
Elle is an Executive Assistant at Science and graduate of the University of California San Diego. She has been playing Tetris with Mike Jones' calendar for about 8 years, starting at MySpace. Elle lives in Venice with her boyfriend and their puppy Darondo.
Tom has led growth initiatives for dozens of technology, CPG and e-commerce companies from both the agency and brand side. As Project Manager at Science, Tom partners with corporate clients to drive strategy, test consumer demand, and execute direct-to-consumer growth projects to scale. He’s also an avid photographer and former golf professional.
Kartik is the founder and CEO of SpringRole - blockchain based proessional profile. He also serves as an Advisor at Science, Handstand (on demand fitness trainers - funded by Reebok), Lenny (helps build one’s credit score) and Burst (electric toothbrushes on subscription). He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh with Masters from the Language Technologies Institute, School of Computer Science. In his free time, he likes to bike and play badminton.
